Tribal progress a must to turn India into a developed nation: Prez Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu stated that the progress of tribals is essential for India to achieve developed nation status. She emphasized the importance of preserving tribal culture, customs, ethos, and natural environment while ensuring their inclusion in development. These remarks were made by the President during the inauguration of the ‘Unmesha’ international literature festival and the ‘Utkarsh’ festival of folk and tribal performing arts in Bhopal.

The President highlighted the need for greater understanding among people of different cultures and beliefs in a world facing numerous challenges. She acknowledged the role of storytellers and poets in fostering this understanding through literature, which has the unique ability to connect experiences and transcend differences. The President encouraged the use of literature to reveal our shared destiny and strengthen the global community.

Furthermore, the President underscored the power of literature to connect with people and bring them closer to one another. She emphasized that meaningful literature and arts are those that move beyond individualism and contribute to the enrichment of Indian literature. The President called for increased translation of major works from all Indian languages into other languages to further enhance the literary landscape.

The President praised literature and art for preserving sensitivity, compassion, and the humanity of humans. She expressed admiration for writers and artists who play a crucial role in protecting humanity. The President also highlighted literature’s significant role in the ideals of India’s freedom struggle, with writers across the country expressing the spirit of freedom and renaissance through novels, stories, poems, and plays.

Additionally, President Murmu mentioned that her visits as President have primarily been to Madhya Pradesh (MP). This visit marks her fifth to MP and the second within a span of 20 days, with her previous visit to Gwalior on July 13.

At the event, Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also addressed the gathering and warmly welcomed the President upon her arrival at Bhopal airport.
